Adobe Firefly
Generative fill in the apps you already license — with a story legal can hear.
The Aiacent take
Firefly is Adobe's image generator, and the product that matters is the one inside Photoshop, Express, and the Firefly web app — not a third chat tab. Generative fill on a layer you already own beats a prettier PNG you cannot edit.
We ranked it third because commercially safer is a real job in 2026. Midjourney looks better on a campaign still. ChatGPT Images is cheaper if you only needed a draft. Firefly is the one a brand studio can defend in a legal review.
Do not buy a Creative Cloud seat because you needed four concept images. Do not skip Firefly if Photoshop is already the operating system and someone is pasting Midjourney outputs into a file they will have to redo.
Pros
- Generative fill and Firefly sit where designers already work
- Training-data and indemnity story is the one legal will actually read
- Brand-safe enough for teams that already have an Adobe kit
Cons
- Taste is safer than it is exciting — Midjourney still wins moodboards
- Credit math can surprise a team that treats it like unlimited ChatGPT
- A weak reason to start paying Adobe if you do not already
Who it's for
- In-house studios already on Creative Cloud
- Teams whose buying meeting includes legal and brand
- Designers who needed generative fill, not a new destination
Who should skip it
- Operators who do not open Photoshop (start with ChatGPT Images)
- Art directors chasing Midjourney's look
- Sellers who needed marketplace cutouts (Photoroom)
What matters in the product
Generative fill
The feature that earns the seat. Extend a canvas, remove a stand, try a sky. A chat generator will not do this on your PSD.
Commercial story
Adobe's training and IP indemnification pitch is why enterprises shortlist Firefly. Read the current terms. Do not quote a keynote.
Express and Firefly web
Fine for social-sized frames if you already live there. Not a reason to skip a scheduler or Photoroom.
Verdict
The Creative Cloud answer. Buy it when Adobe is already the desk and legal is in the room. Do not buy it as a Midjourney killer, and do not buy Creative Cloud just to get it.
