Spellbook is the legal tool we would give a deal lawyer on a Tuesday. It sits in Word. It drafts a clause, flags a missing provision, suggests a redline. That is a real job. It is not Harvey, and it is not CoCounsel, and it is not a reason to skip either if the buying meeting is research or a firm OS.

We ranked it third because most small-firm 'best AI tools for lawyers' tickets that are not Claude are this Word-shaped leak. Mixing it up with research is how you buy a redline tool and still lack a cite.

Do not upload a client draft to a random GPT to 'compare.' If Word is the desk, buy the add-in IT will actually allow — or do the markup yourself.
