Gemini earns its keep when the draft is in the Doc, the thread is in Gmail, and the source is in Drive. The product that matters is the sidekick in those apps — not gemini.google.com as a generic chat tab. As a naked chatbot, Claude and ChatGPT still feel more dependable for prose. Inside Workspace, a worse paragraph in the file you will actually ship beats a better paragraph in a tab you will paste from.
Advanced rides a Google One or Workspace plan. You may already be paying. Skip it if you do not run Google. Skip it if you needed a careful long-doc reader, a brand desk, or a citation engine. Writing
Claude, if the output is a draft that has to survive a skeptical editor: strategy memos, long posts, anything that should not invent a source. Gemini, if the output is a rewrite in the Doc you are already in. If the job is a first pass before lunch — ads, emails, outlines, 'make this less stiff' — neither of these is the default. Gemini, obviously, if the habit is Help me write. Claude if you will keep a separate tab anyway — and most people who bought Claude for the pile will.
