The Aiacent take
Ashby is the ATS we would shortlist when the system of record is the fight and the team will actually move. Reporting that TA will open. Scheduling that is not a seven-email dance. Intelligence that drafts and summarizes on a pipeline you already trust. That is ATS AI. It is not a sourcing engine.
The HR and hiring ranking left Ashby in honorable mentions on purpose: that page is Paradox, Eightfold, and Textio — jobs that are not 'replace the ATS.' This page is the companion. If you already run Greenhouse or Lever and the copilot is fine, stay. Switching ATS to get a slightly nicer summarizer is how recruiting quarters disappear.
Skip Ashby if the leak is outbound (Gem) or names (SeekOut). Skip it if you hire warehouse roles by SMS. That is still Paradox.
Most 'ATS AI' tickets are an Ashby ticket if you will move, and a copilot ticket if you will not. The word intelligence is doing too much work.
Product look
Ashby
Figure slot. No vendor screenshot until we have a rights-cleared file.
Pros
- A real ATS — pipeline, scheduling, analytics — not an AI hat on a legacy IR
- Intelligence is assistive on the req and the pipeline, not a second product to implement
- The honest 'we needed ATS AI' row. Greenhouse and Lever copilots stay honorable if you will not migrate
Cons
- Migration is a project. Buying Ashby for the chatbot is how ATS replacements fail
- Not Gem. Sequences and rediscovery are thinner than a dedicated CRM
- Not a high-volume hourly coordinator. Paradox still owns SMS apply-and-book
Who it's for
- Growth-stage and mid-market TA teams replacing a dated ATS
- Teams already on Ashby who should turn Intelligence on before buying a fourth AI
- Ops-minded recruiting leads who will use the analytics
Who should skip it
- Orgs that will not migrate this year (use the copilot you have)
- Sourcers who needed names or sequences (SeekOut, Gem)
- Hourly / frontline hiring (Paradox) and internal mobility graphs (Eightfold)
What matters in the product
ATS as system of record
The product. If you will not move the pipeline, you are shopping a copilot, not Ashby.
Intelligence
Drafts, summaries, assists on the req. Review them. A model that 'ranks candidates' is a high-risk system — keep a human on adverse decisions.
Analytics
Why operators stay. A pretty AI draft on a pipeline nobody measures is still a pretty draft.
Verdict
The ATS with recruiting AI. Buy Ashby when you will run the pipeline here. Stay on Greenhouse or Lever if you will not migrate. Do not buy it as a cheaper Gem or SeekOut.
