remove.bg

One-credit cutouts — not a Photoroom catalog desk, and not a Cleanup inpaint brush.

The Aiacent take

remove.bg is the correct desk when the expensive part is a background that has to disappear: a preview for free, a subscription when the monthly volume is named, PAYG when the volume is lumpy. It is a bad substitute for Photoroom when the expensive part is a listing studio, and a bad substitute for Cleanup.pictures when the expensive part is an object still in the frame. Mixing those up is how you pay Volume+ and still live in a bedroom catalog.

We score it 7.8 as the single-job background-removal pick — under Photoroom on the catalog job, under Canva on the tile job, first when the leftover job is the cutout. Is remove.bg worth it is the subscription. Photoroom vs remove.bg is the two-way. Photoroom pricing and is Photoroom worth it are the catalog bills. The images ranking is the taste desk.

Public rules come from www.remove.bg/help (Free vs Subscription vs PAYG; unused subscription credits) and official remove.bg blog plan names, checked 20 September 2026. Free: low-res previews up to 0.25 megapixels, one bonus credit to test a high-res download, 50 free API/app previews a month. Subscription: monthly credit budget that renews; unused credits expire at period end; cancel and leftovers expire with the period. PAYG: one-time, does not expire; combined accounts spend subscription credits first. Official blog still names Lite at 40 credits/month, Pro at 200, Volume+ at 500 and larger steps (1,200 / 2,800 / 5,000 / 7,500 / 10,000). A later official post: yearly subscriptions save 10% after a 2025 Black Friday window closed. Official credit update: 1 credit = 1 high-quality removal regardless of Medium / HD / 4K; API small previews are ¼ credit. Footer on the pricing page: remove.bg is a Canva Austria GmbH brand. Live dollar cards did not render as static HTML on our fetch. Confirm www.remove.bg/pricing. We will not invent an Impact URL.

Pros

  • Official help prints the Free / Subscription / PAYG split and the 0.25MP + 1 bonus credit + 50 preview rule
  • Official blog names Lite (40), Pro (200), and Volume+ (500+) monthly credit buckets
  • One full-resolution removal is one credit on official credit-simplification copy — no resolution tax on HD vs 4K

Cons

  • Not Photoroom. If the leak is a catalog scene, credits will not invent Product Staging
  • Dollar cards on www.remove.bg/pricing are JS. We will not invent a $9 Lite sticker we could not read as a static card
  • Subscription credits expire at period end — official help. Treating a monthly pack as a bank is how the invoice becomes the story

Who it's for

  • Desks that will cut backgrounds at a volume they can count
  • Anyone who already rejected Photoroom as a cutout-only seat
  • API and Photoshop-extension users who will spend credits, not screenshots

Who should skip it

  • Anyone whose week is a catalog scene (Photoroom — is Photoroom worth it)
  • Anyone whose week is object removal (Cleanup.pictures)
  • Anyone who has not used the free 0.25MP preview and the bonus credit

What matters in the product

Free preview

0.25MP plus one bonus HD credit. Official help. If you will not download, you bought a toy.

Subscription credits

A monthly bucket. Official help: they expire. Lite / Pro / Volume+ names come from official blog. Confirm the live dollar.

PAYG

A bank that does not expire. Official help: used after subscription credits. Buy it when volume is lumpy.

Verdict

Stay on Free until a listing needs a high-res cutout. Buy a subscription when the monthly count is named. Do not buy Volume+ as Photoroom.
