Is Leonardo AI worth it in 2026? A buyer decision, not a cheaper Midjourney

Essential or Premium is worth it when you will train a look and ship a batch. It is not worth it as a $12 art director. Free is the token taste. Here is the split — and the skip-ifs.

Leonardo

7.7/10

Best for volume and consistency

Volume stills, consistent characters, and a canvas game studios actually finish.

Leonardo is the volume shop: tokens, models, a canvas, character consistency. Game, concept, and content teams that need twenty related stills will recognize it. A brand manager who needed one campaign hero will bounce.

Best for
Teams that need lots of consistent stills — game, concept, or a content calendar with a look.
Skip if
You needed one hero image and a tasteful prompt, or a catalog cutout from a phone photo.

Why it ranks

  • Token economics work for a calendar of stills, not just a hero
  • Fine-tunes and consistent characters are a real workflow
  • Canvas and upscalers keep people inside the product

Watch-outs

  • Default look is easier to spot than Midjourney if you do not train it
  • A lot of UI for a marketer who needed four images
  • Not Photoroom, not a typesetter, not Firefly-in-Photoshop

People search 'is Leonardo worth it' after a character held across twenty frames, or after finance asked why Midjourney Standard is $30 and this canvas starts at $12. Those are different tickets. If you do not name whether you needed a batch you will train a look for, or one campaign hero that has to look directed, you will buy Premium as a cheaper art director — or stay on Free until the daily tokens are a waiting room.

This is a buyer decision, not a realism lab. On Aiacent, Leonardo scores 7.7 as the volume-and-consistency pick. Midjourney scores 8.3 as the distinctive-still pick. Midjourney vs Leonardo is the two-way if both logos are already in the deck. Midjourney pricing is the Fast-hour math. Midjourney alternatives is the leave-the-grid guide. The image ranking is the scored still table. Read this one if the question is the Leonardo subscription.

Premium$30 / month — 25,000 Fast tokens; 75,000 bank; unlimited relaxed image gen on listed modelsThe honest volume seat if relaxed stills are the weekday habit
Ultimate$60 / month — 60,000 Fast tokens; 180,000 bank; relaxed video on listed modelsProfessional / small-business row — not a default upgrade
Team Starter$72 / month for three seats ($24 / seat) — 75,000 shared tokensShared tokens, not cheaper Premium
Team Growth$144 / month for three seats ($48 / seat)A larger shared pool — confirm the current token grant on team-plans
Individual and team prices from leonardo.ai/pricing and leonardo.ai/team-plans, checked 19 September 2026 — the same ladder as Midjourney vs Leonardo. Tokens are the meter. Annual is up to 20% off on the toggle — confirm checkout. We will not freeze a per-image token table that moves by model. Prices exclude tax.
  • Free daily tokens do not become a bank. Paid plans add a rollover bank. Top-ups exist on paid; we will not invent a pack sticker.
  • Relaxed image generation on listed models (Lucid, Phoenix, Flux-class rows on the public grid we checked) is a Premium conversation. Relaxed video on listed Motion models is Ultimate. 'Unlimited' is not every model.
  • Tokens are the meter. Cost varies by model, size, and references. There is no honest 'N images per month' we will invent.
  • Team Starter at $72 is a three-seat floor, not $24 for one curious designer. Custom business is a quote.
  • Companies shopping Midjourney still need to read Midjourney's commercial clause separately. That is Midjourney pricing, not this page.

Leonardo is worth it when the expensive part is the batch

The teams who should pay treat Leonardo like a junior art department with a token meter: train a character, lock a style, ship a calendar. Worth it means a $12 Essential or $30 Premium seat is cheaper than another week of prompting Midjourney from zero twenty times and getting twenty cousins. That is a real bill for game, concept, and content shops that will finish the canvas. It is not a vibe. It is why Leonardo still sits at 7.7 as the volume-and-consistency pick.

If you cannot point at the batch you will actually train this month, you are shopping for a cheaper hero. Free exists so you can learn that about yourself for $0 — 150 Fast tokens a day, a wait, no bank. The review on /tools/leonardo is still the split: buy it when you will train a look and ship a pile. Skip it when you needed one still, a cutout, or a wordmark that spells.

  • Best for: game, concept, and content shops that will train a look and ship a batch
  • Skip if: you needed one hero, a catalog cutout, letters that spell, or Firefly in Photoshop
  • Honest watch-out: a $30 Premium month of untrained defaults is more expensive than Midjourney Standard plus one still you will recut

Leonardo is not worth it as a $12 Midjourney

Midjourney Basic is $10. Standard is $30 — 15 Fast hours and unlimited Relax. Pro is $60 — Stealth and the commercial clause for companies over $1M gross revenue (read the Terms; we are not your lawyer). If the leak is a campaign hero that has to look directed, Leonardo is not worth it as a replacement. You will generate a handsome frame, call it a campaign, and earn the default 'AI fantasy inventory' look. Midjourney vs Leonardo is the two-way. Midjourney pricing is the Fast-hour bill. Midjourney alternatives names the other forks.

The same no applies if the pain was a draft in the Plus tab (ChatGPT Images), letters on a thumbnail (Ideogram), a phone-photo SKU (Photoroom), or Firefly next to Photoshop with legal in the room. Buying Essential because 'we should try Leonardo, it is cheaper' is how this category wastes a quarter. Empty style references still look like inventory. The image ranking is that warning.

When Premium, Ultimate, or Team is the real question

Premium is $30 — the same band as Midjourney Standard, for a different job. Relaxed image generation on listed models, a 25,000 Fast-token grant, a 75,000 bank. Buy it when Essential's tokens are the weekly complaint and you can show the wall. Do not buy it because a blog said 'serious creators get Premium.' If the wall is 'this still has to look directed,' you are still in a Midjourney conversation.

Ultimate is $60 — 60,000 Fast tokens, a 180,000 bank, relaxed video on listed Motion models. Leonardo positions it for professional creators and small businesses. If you are asking whether Leonardo is worth it, you are not an Ultimate buyer yet. Prove Premium first. Do not buy Ultimate because a reel looked cinematic. Video that has to be a shot is still the video ranking.

Team Starter at $72 for three seats is shared tokens and a workspace, not cheaper Premium. Growth is $144 for three seats. Buy Team when several people have to draw from one pool and someone will own admin. Do not buy Team because Essential felt lonely. Custom business is a quote we will not invent.

What 'worth it' is not

  • A realism lab. We did not run 400-image bake-offs or invent a review count.
  • A coupon hunt. If there is a live trial deal it lives on /deals. We do not invent codes or partner URLs.
  • A reason to skip the style train. Untrained defaults are how this category earns screenshots.
  • Cheaper than Midjourney if you needed a directed hero. It is cheaper than twenty zero-shot cousins if the batch is the job.

The 30-day tell

After a month, either someone trained a look and shipped a batch they still recut, or they did not. If the account is a graveyard of untrained defaults you could have asked ChatGPT Images, it was not worth it. If the calendar starts as a style reference and ends as twenty frames that hold, it was. That is the whole audit. Leonardo for the batch and Midjourney for the hero can coexist. That is allowed. Midjourney vs Leonardo is that split.

Leonardo is worth it when the expensive part is a batch nobody trained. It is not worth it when one person wanted a cheaper campaign hero. Mixing those up is how you pay for tokens and still cannot find the look — or the still.Aiacent, 2026

Verdict

Worth it: a look you will train and a batch you will ship — Free to taste tokens, Essential if a light calendar, Premium if relaxed volume is the habit, Team Starter when three seats and shared tokens are named. Not worth it: a directed hero (Midjourney — Midjourney vs Leonardo, Midjourney pricing), a Plus-tab draft (ChatGPT Images — Midjourney alternatives), letters (Ideogram), a cutout (Photoroom), or Firefly indemnity. Then read the image ranking if you want the scores in one table.

FAQ

Yes if you will train a look and ship a batch. No if you needed one campaign hero, a catalog cutout, letters that spell, or Firefly in Photoshop. 'Worth it' without the still job is how this page exists.
