Is Shopify Magic worth it in 2026? Included Sidekick, not a second store AI bill
Shopify Magic — and Sidekick — is worth it when you already pay for Shopify and will use the included assistant to unblock a listing. It is not worth it as the reason to stay on Shopify, as cheaper Klaviyo, or as Photoroom. Magic is free on every plan. Here is the split — and the skip-ifs.

Shopify Magic
7.7/10Best built-in merchant AI
AI baked into the store you already run.
Shopify Magic is a bundle of AI features inside Shopify: copy, images, store Q&A via Sidekick. We rank it third in ecommerce on purpose. It is the correct default and a weak destination. Use it to unblock a listing. Use dedicated tools when the channel is how you make money.
- Best for
- Merchants who want good-enough copy, images, and sidekick help without another seat.
- Skip if
- You have a full creative team and a dedicated CRM — use those.
Why it ranks
- Zero extra vendor — it is in the admin
- Product-copy and image helpers that merchants will actually find
- Sidekick is handy for 'how do I do this in Shopify' questions
Watch-outs
- Good enough, rarely best in class
- You still want Klaviyo for lifecycle and Photoroom for catalogs
- Easy to publish bland AI product descriptions at scale
Product look
Shopify Magic
Figure slot. No vendor screenshot until we have a rights-cleared file.
People search 'is Shopify Magic worth it' or 'is Shopify Sidekick worth it' after a generated product description actually converted, or after finance asked why a store now sits next to Klaviyo and Photoroom. Those are different tickets. If you do not name whether the leak is an included admin assistant, a lifecycle graph, or a catalog photo, you will climb to Grow so Sidekick felt official — or skip a working listing habit because a blog said you needed a store AI suite.
This is a buyer decision, not a lab. On Aiacent, Shopify Magic scores 7.7 as the built-in merchant AI. Klaviyo scores 8.9 as the ecommerce CRM. Photoroom scores 8.4 as the catalog photographer. The ecommerce ranking is that four-way (Klaviyo, Photoroom, Shopify Magic, Pictory). A sane AI stack for ecommerce is the order of operations. Photoroom pricing and Klaviyo pricing are the neighboring bills. Read this one if the question is Magic and Sidekick on a Shopify plan you already pay for — not a peel-off Magic SKU.
The public ladder we checked
| What you are buying | What Shopify publishes | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Basic (yearly / monthly) | $29/mo yearly or $39/mo monthly. Built-in AI assistant. 'Millions of tokens' on the card we opened. Card rates from 2.9% + 30¢ | Solo merchants. Sidekick and Magic are included extras — not a reason to pick Basic |
| Grow | $79/mo on the yearly headline we opened. Up to 5 staff. Lower card rates. Sidekick included; custom-app generation listed on Grow / Plus / Enterprise in Shopify's changelog | A small team. Do not climb so Sidekick felt darker |
| Advanced | $299/mo on that same yearly headline. Up to 15 staff. Lower card rates again | A store that already needed Advanced ops. Not a smarter Magic |
| Plus / POS Pro / Agentic add-ons | Plus is a sales conversation on shopify.com/plus — we will not invent a leftover Plus sticker. POS Pro +$89/mo per location. Agentic catalog: pay when you sell | When those jobs are named. Not because Magic needed a darker plan |
| Magic / Sidekick as a line item | Help: Magic tools are free on every plan; features may vary. shopify.com/sidekick: Sidekick does not cost extra; usage limits vary by plan | Use it if you already pay for Shopify. Do not buy Shopify for Sidekick |
- Shopify Magic is not a peel-off SKU. Sidekick is the in-admin assistant. You are buying a commerce plan, then using included AI.
- We will not invent a per-token price. The Basic card we opened said 'millions of tokens.' Shopify does not print a public Sidekick token grid we could quote as a checkout row.
- Custom apps from Sidekick were listed for Grow, Plus, and Enterprise in Shopify's 10 December 2025 changelog, with usage limits. Confirm in admin.
- Promo pricing ($1 for 3 months) is not the long-run bill. Quote the standard yearly sticker when you decide 'worth it.'
The worth-it test
| If this is true | Shopify Magic / Sidekick is | Buy instead |
|---|---|---|
| You already pay for Shopify and someone will still edit a Magic description, image, or Sidekick answer every week | Worth it — included. Use it. Do not add a second store-AI invoice | Stay. Add Klaviyo or Photoroom when those jobs are named |
| You do not have a store yet and wanted Sidekick as the reason to pick Shopify | Not worth it as a platform decision | Pick Shopify for checkout, channels, and ops. Magic is a bonus. The ecommerce ranking |
| The leak is flows, segments, and owned email / SMS | Not worth it as Klaviyo | Klaviyo. Klaviyo pricing. Is Klaviyo worth it. A sane AI stack for ecommerce |
| The leak is a phone photo that has to look like a listing | Not worth it as Photoroom | Photoroom. Photoroom pricing. Is Photoroom worth it |
| The leak is blog-to-video from a catalog you already write | Not worth it as Pictory | Pictory. The ecommerce ranking |
| You wanted a brand copy desk several people share | Not worth it as Jasper | Jasper. Is Jasper worth it. The writing ranking |
| You wanted to leave Shopify for Wix or Framer because a builder blog said AI was better there | Not worth a migration for a generate | Stay if checkout is the product. Is Wix AI worth it and is Framer AI worth it are website tickets, not commerce tickets |
Shopify Magic is worth it when the expensive part is a blank listing in an admin you already pay for
The merchants who should use it already live in Shopify. The habit is a first description from bullets, a background they will still crop, a Sidekick 'how do I do this' they will still click, a hero they will still rewrite. Worth it means the included features on Basic, Grow, Advanced, or Plus are cheaper than another Monday of a blank listing plus a ChatGPT paste you will forget to paste back. That is a real bill on a solo or small-team store. It is not a vibe. It is why we score Shopify Magic 7.7 as the included extra — third on the ecommerce ranking on purpose — and why this page will not invent a listing-accuracy lab.
If you cannot point at the SKUs people will edit this month, you are shopping for a demo. Magic exists so you can unblock a listing. Klaviyo exists so you do not treat Sidekick as a CRM. Photoroom exists so you do not treat Magic images as a studio.
- Best for: merchants whose source of truth is already a Shopify admin
- Skip if: you wanted Klaviyo's graph, Photoroom's catalog, or a reason to pick Shopify
- Honest watch-out: bland AI descriptions at scale are how you earn returns and thin SEO. Edit like you mean it
Shopify Magic is not worth it as cheaper Klaviyo — or as Photoroom you skipped
Klaviyo still wins owned channels. It is not 'an AI tool.' It is the ecommerce CRM that added AI on a customer graph. If the expensive part is flows, segments, and the list you already have, Sidekick is not the product. Klaviyo pricing. Is Klaviyo worth it. A sane AI stack for ecommerce.
The same no applies to Photoroom and to a website-builder migration. Photoroom is the catalog photographer — Photoroom pricing, is Photoroom worth it. Framer and Wix are website tickets. Buying Grow so Sidekick could write a description you will not edit is how you fund unused staff seats. Buying a second 'AI store' app because Magic felt too included is how you pay twice for the same bland paragraph.
When Grow, Advanced, or Plus is the real question
Basic at $29 a month billed yearly ($39 month-to-month) is the honest first store: checkout, channels, included Sidekick. Buy Basic for commerce you will actually run — not 'for AI.' The $1-for-3-months promo is a taste of the platform, not a Magic discount.
Grow at $79 a month on the yearly headline we opened is staff seats and better rates. Buy it when five people have to live in admin. Do not buy it so Sidekick could generate a custom app — that changelog row is a bonus on Grow, not a reason to climb. Advanced at $299 is ops, reports, and rates. Plus is a quote. POS Pro is $89 per location. None of those refill a Magic you already have on Basic.
What 'worth it' is not
- A listing-accuracy lab. We did not run 400-SKU bake-offs or invent a review count.
- A peel-off Magic or Sidekick plan. Help says the tools are free on every subscription.
- A coupon hunt. No invented Impact, Shopify affiliate, or via= IDs.
- A reason to skip Klaviyo or Photoroom when those are already the leak.
The 30-day tell
After a month, either someone reused a Magic draft or a Sidekick answer on a live listing or admin task, or the assistant sat idle next to a blank product form. If you climbed to Grow and nobody opened Sidekick, it was not worth $79 for AI. If the team stopped pasting from ChatGPT into the product editor, it was. That is the whole audit. Klaviyo pricing if the other desk was the list. Photoroom pricing if the other desk was the photo. A sane AI stack for ecommerce if you are trying not to buy five store logos.
Shopify Magic is worth it when the expensive part is a blank listing in an admin you already pay for. It is not worth it when one person wanted cheaper Klaviyo, Photoroom you skipped, or a reason to pick Shopify. Mixing those up is how you buy Grow and still paste from a browser.— Aiacent, 2026
Verdict
Worth it: a Shopify admin you already trust — Magic and Sidekick included on Basic, Grow, Advanced, or Plus. Not worth it: the reason to pick Shopify, a lifecycle graph (Klaviyo pricing — is Klaviyo worth it), a catalog studio (Photoroom pricing — is Photoroom worth it), a brand desk (is Jasper worth it). Then read a sane AI stack for ecommerce if you are trying not to buy five logos, and the ecommerce ranking if you want the scored store table.
