Grain
Public-sticker conversation intelligence — not a cheaper Gong, and not a free recorder.

The Aiacent take
Grain is the correct seat when the expensive part is conversation intelligence you can actually buy without a Gong quote: clips someone will coach from, fields that land on the CRM record, trackers on the words that matter. It is a bad substitute for Fathom when the card was the fight, and a bad substitute for Gong when a manager will review moments as the operating system of a sales floor.
We score it 7.6 as the public-sticker conversation-intelligence row. Gong still leads the sales ranking at 9.0 with licenses plus a platform fee and no public numeral. Fathom still wins the free recorder (7.7). Fireflies still wins the archive-and-CRM notetaker (7.8). Forcing Grain to be any of those is how you pay Starter for tape you already had for free — or skip a working Business habit because a blog invented a Gong sticker.
Public feature split comes from Grain's Plans support article (support.grain.com, updated 12 August 2026), checked again 19 September 2026: Free is one Notetaker seat, 45-minute meetings, no uploads, and a 20-bot-meeting cap if you signed up with a personal email; Starter is unlimited recording, 10 uploads a month, custom templates, Ask Grain, and API; Business adds AI coaching, custom follow-ups, trackers, CRM and dialer integrations, and the advanced MCP; Enterprise is SSO, extra security, a dedicated AM, and custom invoicing (sales@grain.com). Grain's own Grain vs Granola article (updated 19 August 2026) listed Starter at $15 a user a month and Business at $29. The conversation-intelligence page listed starting pricing at $15 per user. The live grain.com/pricing grid we opened also printed a $19 per seat/month fragment next to Free — the cards were messy. Confirm checkout. We will not invent a monthly-versus-annual matrix we could not read cleanly, a leftover Chorus SKU, or an Impact URL.

Pros
- Conversation intelligence with a public starting numeral — Gong still will not print one
- Business is coaching, trackers, and CRM/dialer — a named seat, not a darker Starter
- Free viewers can watch shared tape; paid seats are the recorders and coaches
Cons
- grain.com/pricing was a messy JS grid the day we opened it — confirm checkout
- It is not Gong. A $29 Business seat will not invent a coaching culture
- It is not Fathom. Buying Business because the card felt unserious is how this page exists
Who it's for
- Mid-market sales or CS teams that will coach from clips and connect HubSpot or Salesforce
- RevOps that needed field-level writes and already rejected a second notetaker
- Managers who will review moments — not hours — and will not wait on a Gong RFP
Who should skip it
- Anyone whose leak is unlimited tape on a $0 card (Fathom)
- Anyone whose leak is last quarter in the CRM without coaching (Fireflies)
- Anyone whose leak is a coaching OS with no public sticker (Gong)
What matters in the product
Clips and coaching
Business is scorecards, trackers, talk-time. A recap nobody opens is still a recap. Gong if the ritual is the company.
CRM and dialer
On Business. Field-level writes are the product Grain's own blog sells. Note-push is not that job.
Paid seat vs free viewer
Recorders and coaches are paid. Viewers can watch shared tape. Mixing those up is how finance sees a seat for every Slack lurker.
Verdict
Buy Business when coaching plus CRM write-back is the named leak. Stay on Free or Fathom when the card was the fight. Take the Gong conversation when the ritual is the company.
