Visual scenarios for people who will actually build the machine.
The Aiacent take
Make (the product formerly sold as Integromat) is the visual automation canvas we would hand a technical operator. Scenarios, modules, routers. You can see the machine. Zapier's simpler zap is faster to first value. Make's scenario is faster to a branching workflow you will not outgrow in month two.
The AI framing is honest: modules that classify, draft, or extract sit on the same canvas as HTTP and routers. That is automation with an LLM in a step. It is not an autonomous coworker, and it is not a reason to migrate off Zapier if three linear zaps already work.
Skip it if nobody on the team will open the scenario after the vendor webinar. Skip it if you needed to self-host. That is n8n. Skip it if the row is an account — Clay.
Pros
- Routers, iterators, and error handling that Zapier still makes you feel clever for needing
- AI modules are steps on a canvas, not a separate 'agent product' you cannot see
- Better cost control on heavy transforms if you design the scenario on purpose
Cons
- The canvas is a skill. A marketer who wanted three zaps will bounce
- Not n8n — you do not own the runtime
- Easy to build an unreadable spaghetti graph and call it 'AI ops'
Who it's for
- Ops and RevOps people who think in diagrams
- Agencies running the same machine for more than one client
- Teams whose Zapier graph is now a pile of overlapping zaps
Who should skip it
- Non-technical teams that needed a zap this week (Zapier)
- Teams that will version workflows in git and host them (n8n)
- Anyone whose leak is the list, not the scenario (Clay)
What matters in the product
The scenario canvas
The product. You can see the branch. You can also hide a bug in a filter nobody reads. Name your modules.
AI as a module
Classify, extract, draft. Point it at fields you still believe. Then sample the output before you turn the volume up.
Operations math
You pay for runs and modules. A sloppy iterator is how Make feels 'expensive' and Zapier felt 'simpler.' Design the path.
Verdict
The visual power-user canvas. Buy Make when the zap became a machine. Stay on Zapier when it did not. Do not buy it as hosted n8n or as Clay-with-pretty-lines.
