Meeting summaries inside the Zoom you already pay for — not a cheaper Otter.

The Aiacent take
Zoom AI Companion is the meeting-AI layer we would turn on when the company already pays for Zoom Workplace and the leak is a recap in the room they already have: meeting summary, transcription, chat compose, call notes. Zoom's 2026 packaging still includes those on eligible paid plans and has started calling them by the job. ZoomMate is the paid add-on for agentic search, workflows, and deliverables.
We score it 7.5 as the included companion, under Otter (7.9) for the archive people actually search and under Fireflies (7.8) for last-quarter-in-the-CRM. Gong still wins coaching. A $0 Basic account is not this product.
Public packaging comes from Zoom's Workplace Pro page (AI Companion included; $15.99 billed monthly on the comparison we checked), Zoom's AI Companion / ZoomMate posts, and zoom.com/en/products/ai-assistant/ (ZoomMate $20 per user per month, 2,200 credits), checked 19 September 2026. Confirm zoom.us/pricing for the annual Workplace numeral. We will not invent a companion surcharge or an Impact URL.
Product look
Zoom AI Companion
Figure slot. No vendor screenshot until we have a rights-cleared file.
Pros
- Summaries, transcription, and chat compose live in the Zoom you already host
- No second bot in the participant list if the admin turns the companion on
- Zoom is explicit: core AI is included on eligible paid plans; ZoomMate is a second SKU
Cons
- Not Otter's archive, not Fireflies' CRM search, not Gong's coaching OS
- Basic does not include AI Companion. Buying Pro 'for AI' with no meeting habit is a costume
- ZoomMate at $20 is agentic docs and workflows — a different ticket from a recap
Who it's for
- Teams already on Zoom Workplace Pro, Business, or Enterprise
- Operators who needed a recap without a second notetaker bot
- Admins who will leave ZoomMate off until a deliverable job is named
Who should skip it
- Free Basic hosts who thought the companion shipped in the 40-minute meeting
- Teams whose leak is a searchable archive (Otter or Fireflies)
- Sales floors that coach from the tape (Gong)
What matters in the product
Meeting summary and transcription
The product. Included on eligible paid Workplace plans. Admin-controlled. Not a reason to skip Otter if the archive is the job.
Chat compose and in-meeting questions
The companion in the product you already open. Late joiners ask what they missed. Still a first draft.
ZoomMate
$20 a user, 2,200 credits. Agentic retrieval, workflows, docs from the meeting. A second SKU. Do not buy it because the companion felt incomplete.
Verdict
Turn the companion on when you already pay for Zoom and the recap is the leak. Buy Otter or Fireflies when the archive is the job. Do not buy ZoomMate as a prettier summary.
