Later

The visual social calendar — Instagram and TikTok first, Buffer's queue second.

7.9/10Best visual social calendarUpdated September 19, 2026

The Aiacent take

Later is the scheduler we would hand a brand that thinks in tiles. You drag a still onto a calendar that looks like the Instagram grid. You see the week. That is the product. Caption drafts help. They will not invent a content program, and they are not a reason to churn Buffer if the leak was 'nothing is queued.'

We put it on the Buffer alternatives page because most 'Buffer feels flat' tickets are a visual-planner ticket, not a caption-model ticket. Buffer still wins the operator calendar. Hootsuite still wins the enterprise suite. Predis still wins the tile you did not design.

Skip Later if LinkedIn text posts are the job and nobody cares about the grid. Skip it if you already pay for Sprout and the calendar is fine. Switching planners to get a slightly nicer Instagram preview is how social projects go sideways.

Most 'we need a Buffer alternative' tickets from a visual brand are a Later ticket. The word alternative is doing too much work.

Pros

  • The visual planner is still the reason people stay — you see the grid before you post
  • Instagram, TikTok, and Linkin.bio match how visual brands actually ship
  • Caption assist is fine. It is not why you would leave Buffer

Cons

  • Not a listening or approvals platform. That is Hootsuite or Sprout
  • Not the cheapest calendar if LinkedIn and a blog are the whole program
  • AI captions still read like AI captions if you do not edit

Who it's for

  • DTC and creator brands that live on Instagram and TikTok
  • Small teams who will actually use the visual planner every week
  • Anyone whose Buffer complaint was 'I cannot see the grid'

Who should skip it

  • Operators who needed a cheap multi-channel queue (Buffer)
  • Enterprise social orgs that needed listening and approvals (Hootsuite)
  • Teams whose leak is the creative file, not the calendar (Predis, Canva)

What matters in the product

Visual planner

The product. If you will not look at the grid, you bought a prettier Buffer.

Linkin.bio and shop links

Useful when Instagram is a storefront. Ignore it if you do not sell from the profile.

Caption assist

A junior intern. Empty briefs still sound empty. Do not buy Later for the model.

Verdict

The visual calendar. Buy Later when the grid is the leak. Stay on Buffer when the queue is the leak. Do not buy it as a cheaper Hootsuite or a Predis substitute.
