The Aiacent take
NotebookLM is the correct seat when the corpus is already in your hands: PDFs, notes, a lecture, a Drive dump you will add as sources, then ask. In July 2026 Google's own plans page said NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook — same notebooks, new name. People still search NotebookLM. This review keeps that name on purpose.
We score it 8.1 as the source-grounded notebook. Perplexity still wins the open web (8.0). Gemini still wins the live Doc and Gmail thread (7.9). ChatGPT still wins the mixed draft (8.3). Forcing NotebookLM to be any of those is how you buy Google AI Pro for a chat tab and never add a source.
There is no separate NotebookLM-only sticker on the official pages we opened on 19 September 2026. notebooklm.google/plans describes Gemini Notebook in Plus (2× generations versus standard, up to 100 sources per notebook) and says Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra are regional. US list prices come from Google One's plan grid (one.google.com/about/plans): Google AI Plus $9.99 a month (2 TB on that grid; 400 GB on one.google.com/about/google-ai-plans the same day — confirm cart), Google AI Pro $19.99 a month with 5 TB and expanded Gemini Notebook. Ultra prints $99.99 / $199.99 on the Gemini subscriptions ladder we already cite on is Gemini Advanced worth it. Workspace shops should check whether Gemini Notebook is already in the work seat before they buy a consumer Google AI plan for the notebook. Confirm checkout. We will not invent a leftover Plus-only SKU or an Impact URL.

Pros
- The answer is supposed to come from sources you added — that is the product
- Free/standard is a real taste before you buy a Google AI plan for limits
- Audio / video overviews and reports sit on the notebook, not a second app
Cons
- Empty or thin sources still produce confident folklore with a citation costume
- It is not Perplexity. It will not honestly brief the open web you did not upload
- Paid limits are a Google AI bundle. You may already be buying Gemini you will not open

- Students, editors, and operators who will add sources and ask that notebook
- Teams whose brief is already a pile of PDFs, not a Google search
- Google AI Plus / Pro subscribers who will actually open Gemini Notebook, not just Gemini chat

Add the files. Ask the notebook. Thin sources still invent. You still open the PDF.
Overviews and study artifacts
Audio / video overviews, flashcards, reports on Google's plans page. Useful. Not a reason to skip reading the source.
Limits ride a Google AI plan
Plus / Pro / Ultra raise generations and notebook size. The chat app is a different habit. Is Gemini Advanced worth it is that subscription.
Verdict
Use Free until a named source pile is the week. Pay Plus or Pro when those limits are the wall. Do not buy it as Perplexity, ChatGPT, or a Gemini chat costume.
