A sane AI stack for email marketers (2026): draft + list + send, not a 12-tool ESP OS
Start with the send you will still own. Add ChatGPT Plus when Free's cap is the wall. Add Mailchimp when the campaign is the leak. Add Klaviyo when owned flows are the leak. Add HubSpot only when the opportunity is named. Skip the ESP OS until a step is named.

ChatGPT
8.3/10Best default writing seat
The default brain. Still the right first writing seat for most people.
ChatGPT is the baseline every other AI writing tool has to beat. For a solo operator with a decent brief, Plus is still the correct first purchase in 2026: drafts, rewrites, outlines, and the ugly first pass on a landing page. Image generation in the same tab is a different review — ChatGPT Images on the 2026 image ranking. Claude vs ChatGPT is the two-way fight if the other tab in the meeting is Anthropic. ChatGPT vs Gemini is the two-way if the other tab is Google. Perplexity vs ChatGPT is the two-way if the other tab is a research engine. On a coding desk it is a helper tab, not an IDE — that ranking is AI coding. On an SEO desk it is a draft helper, not a content-score platform — that ranking is AI SEO.
- Best for
- Anyone who needs a strong general writer, researcher, and editor in one tab.
- Skip if
- Several people have to sound like the same company every week — that is Jasper's job.
Why it ranks
- The best generalist writer most operators will actually open
- Research, drafting, and editing in one thread beats a template farm
- Plus is cheap enough that 'should we buy a copy tool' is a real question
Watch-outs
- No shared brand voice unless you build the habit yourself
- Easy to publish confident filler if nobody owns the facts
- Not a campaign system, a sequencer, or a style-guide desk

ChatGPT
Best for. Anyone who needs a strong general writer, researcher, and editor in one tab.
Skip if. Several people have to sound like the same company every week — that is Jasper's job.

Mailchimp
7.8/10Best simple email AI
The newsletter tool people already have — now with Mailchimp AI on top.
Mailchimp is the email tool most 'we need AI email' tickets already own. Intuit's Mailchimp AI will draft a campaign, rewrite a subject line, and suggest a segment. That is leverage on a simple program. It is not a reason to skip Klaviyo if abandoned checkout and SMS are how you print money.
- Best for
- Creators and small brands whose program is a newsletter, a few automations, and a list they already keep here.
- Skip if
- Owned channels are how you make money and you need ecommerce-grade flows — that is still Klaviyo.
Why it ranks
- The default inbox for teams that are not ready for a marketing OS
- Mailchimp AI is useful for subject lines, content variants, and a first draft — on a list you already have
- Templates and a brand kit beat a blank Klaviyo canvas for a monthly send
Watch-outs
- Predictive segments and Shopify-class flows still trail Klaviyo
- Bills and product complexity jump once you outgrow the newsletter job
- B2B CRM and multi-channel lifecycle are a stretch — that is HubSpot

Klaviyo
8.9/10Best ecommerce CRM
Email and SMS for ecommerce, now with a serious AI layer.
Klaviyo is not 'an AI tool.' It is the ecommerce CRM that added AI in the places that matter: segments, subject lines, product recommendations, and (carefully) content. That is why it leads our ecommerce ranking, the 2026 marketing stack, and the AI email ranking. The brands making money on owned channels already live here; the AI features are leverage, not the reason the category exists.
- Best for
- Shopify-class brands that make money from owned channels.
- Skip if
- You send a monthly newsletter from Mailchimp and that is the whole program.
Why it ranks
- Still the default marketing OS for serious ecommerce
- AI helps with segments, content, and predictions — on top of a real platform
- SMS, email, and reviews in one customer graph
Watch-outs
- Bills grow with your success, which feels like a tax
- You can over-message if you turn every AI suggestion on
- B2B / non-commerce CRM use is a stretch

People search 'AI stack for email marketers' after a vendor demoed an operating system that writes every subject line, predicts every segment, sends the SMS, and books the meeting while you sleep. The honest 2026 stack is smaller: the send you will still own as yourself, then one seat per bottleneck you can name across draft, list, and flow. If you cannot name the bottleneck, you are not shopping for a stack. You are shopping for a slide that will not survive Tuesday's unsent campaign.
This is a ladder, not a persona dump. Email marketing is not 'newsletter writer' with a CRM badge, and it is not 'ecommerce manager' with a subject line. The email ranking is the scored send. Klaviyo pricing is the profile bill. Is Klaviyo worth it is the graph. Is Mailchimp AI worth it is the Assist climb. Klaviyo vs Mailchimp is the two-way. Free AI tools is where a marketer actually starts without a card. The writing ranking is the sentence when voice is the leak. Read this one if you own the send — newsletter, lifecycle, B2B nurture — and are trying not to buy five logos because a thread said 'AI ESP OS.'
Start here
The send. Most 'we need an AI email stack' tickets are a first-campaign ticket with extra procurement. The unsent welcome, the subject line that still sounds like a vendor, the abandoned checkout that is still a blast, the list you will not suppress. Write those down. Date them. Staff the sentence that is allowed to be wrong. Then decide whether the next leak is a cap on the tab you already open, a campaign desk nobody will sit in, or a flow that has to know the cart.
ChatGPT Free is a real taste. Plus is $20 and will draft the issue, the subject-line set, the SMS you will still cut. It is not Mailchimp. It is not Klaviyo. It is not a deliverability desk. Stay on the draft until a named leak shows up in a week you will actually send: the tab hits a cap, the campaign calendar is folklore, or the Shopify graph is the P&L. If none of those are true, another logo will not make the list feel hosted. Faceless-ESP-speak is the failure mode. Rewrite until it sounds like you.
- Start: a send you would still own — then one named leak
- Do not start: a 12-tool ESP OS, a chatbot that invents the offer, or Klaviyo because the job title said 'retention'
- Honest watch-out: a prettier subject line will not invent owners, and a stack will not invent demand
Add the next seat when the bottleneck is named
Add ChatGPT Plus when Free's cap is the wall — and the draft is already the job
The leak is a first pass you will still cut, and the tab is already ChatGPT. Plus is $20. Custom GPTs are close enough to a voice file for one marketer. They are not a five-person brand desk. The writing ranking is the longer sentence table if the leak grew a voice several people have to share — that is Jasper. Skip Plus if you already draft in Claude. Skip it if the bottleneck is the flow. A second $20 tab will not sit in Klaviyo. Skip it if you will not rewrite. A generated welcome that sounds like every other 2026 brand is how you train people to unsubscribe.
Add Mailchimp when the campaign — not the graph — is the leak
The leak is a newsletter, a few automations, a list someone already opens. Mailchimp is that desk on this site. Is Mailchimp AI worth it is the Assist question — generative AI is a no-extra-cost add-on on Standard and Premium for certain users on mailchimp.com/pricing/marketing; it is not included on Free or Essentials. Skip Mailchimp if the leak was abandoned checkout. That is Klaviyo. Skip it if the leak was the opportunity. That is HubSpot. Skip it if you will climb off Free just for Assist. ChatGPT will draft the issue for $20.
Add Klaviyo when owned flows are already the P&L
The leak is abandoned checkout, browse, SMS, a customer graph Shopify already feeds. Klaviyo is that desk. Klaviyo pricing is the slider — Free is 250 profiles / 500 emails / $5 mobile; paid email commonly starts near $20. Is Klaviyo worth it is the subscription. Klaviyo vs Mailchimp is the two-way. Skip Klaviyo if the program is still a monthly newsletter. Skip it if you will not suppress. Skip it because the job title said 'email marketer.' Most newsletter desks are not a Klaviyo buyer on day one.
Add HubSpot only when the send has to sit on the opportunity
The leak is a nurture that has to know the deal stage, and someone will sit through a hub. Is HubSpot worth it is the seat. HubSpot vs Klaviyo is the two-way. Skip HubSpot if the money is in the cart. Skip it if founders still send themselves from Mailchimp. A darker hub will not invent a pipeline. Skip it because a demo wrote a nicer email.
Add Brevo when the leak is the bill — or Beehiiv when the leak is a list you will grow
The leak is Mailchimp's paid climb on a simple send. Brevo is the cheaper email-plus-SMS desk on the email ranking. Skip Brevo if the leak was the graph. The leak is ads, a 0% take, a site you will staff. Is Beehiiv worth it is the newsletter-growth subscription — Substack vs Beehiiv if discovery is the other logo. Skip Beehiiv if the leftover job is a campaign you already send. This ladder stays on the marketer's send on purpose.
Stay on free seats until the leak is paid
ChatGPT Free is a real draft. Mailchimp Free is a real small-list send. Klaviyo Free is a real 250-profile taste. The free-tools ranking is the scored version of 'start here without a card.' Leave free the week a campaign has to ship on a cadence, a flow has to know the cart, or Assist is a side effect of a Standard climb you already needed. Do not leave free because a vendor demoed a studio.
What is not a rung
- A 'lifecycle OS' that promises to write, segment, and print money. That is a directory.
- The newsletter-writer stack as a costume. That ladder is the issue and the list. Steal Beehiiv when that file is the leak — not because an email marketer also 'does newsletter.'
- The ecommerce ranking as a shopping list. Photoroom and the catalog are a store desk. Add them when that file is the leak.
- Vendor 'AI employee' theater that sends itself. The agents ranking already declined that row. You still own the unsubscribe.
- Klaviyo on day one because the title said retention. Is Klaviyo worth it after a flow is named and Mailchimp is already the wrong graph.
- Standard Mailchimp on day one because Assist is free on that plan. Is Mailchimp AI worth it after the send features — not the chatbot — are the wall.
Most 'we need an AI email stack' tickets are a ChatGPT ticket, a Mailchimp ticket, or a Klaviyo ticket. The word stack is doing too much work.— Aiacent stack guide, 2026
An email desk, in one pass
Solo newsletter: ChatGPT Plus for the issue, Mailchimp Free or Standard, stop. Do not buy Klaviyo. Do not buy HubSpot. Do not buy Beehiiv until ads or 0% take are named. DTC on Shopify: Plus plus Klaviyo — is Klaviyo worth it, Klaviyo pricing — then stay off Mailchimp unless a second list is real. Klaviyo vs Mailchimp before you migrate. B2B nurture: HubSpot if the CRM is already the week; Mailchimp if the send is still a campaign; is HubSpot worth it before you add a second hub. Price-sensitive SMS-plus-email: Brevo, the email ranking. Writer who will grow a list they own: Beehiiv or Substack, named — is Beehiiv worth it, the newsletter-writer stack — not this ladder's default. A slide with twelve email-AI logos is a directory. The email ranking is the scored send. Free AI tools is the RFP if the card is the objection.
Verdict
Do not start from a list of logos. Start from a send someone will still own. Add Plus when Free's cap is the wall. Add Mailchimp when the campaign is the leak — is Mailchimp AI worth it. Add Klaviyo when owned flows are the leak — is Klaviyo worth it, Klaviyo pricing, Klaviyo vs Mailchimp. Add HubSpot only when the opportunity is named — is HubSpot worth it. Then read free AI tools if the next seat still has to be $0, the email ranking if the send grew a score table, and the ecommerce ranking if the leftover job is the store.
