HubSpot vs Klaviyo for email (2026): winner by job, not by logo
Klaviyo wins Shopify-class lifecycle. HubSpot wins when the send has to sit on the same CRM as the pipeline. They are not interchangeable ESPs — and the cheaper seat is usually the wrong reason to choose.

Klaviyo
8.9/10Best ecommerce CRM
Email and SMS for ecommerce, now with a serious AI layer.
Klaviyo is not 'an AI tool.' It is the ecommerce CRM that added AI in the places that matter: segments, subject lines, product recommendations, and (carefully) content. That is why it leads our ecommerce ranking, the 2026 marketing stack, and the AI email ranking. The brands making money on owned channels already live here; the AI features are leverage, not the reason the category exists.
- Best for
- Shopify-class brands that make money from owned channels.
- Skip if
- You send a monthly newsletter from Mailchimp and that is the whole program.
Why it ranks
- Still the default marketing OS for serious ecommerce
- AI helps with segments, content, and predictions — on top of a real platform
- SMS, email, and reviews in one customer graph
Watch-outs
- Bills grow with your success, which feels like a tax
- You can over-message if you turn every AI suggestion on
- B2B / non-commerce CRM use is a stretch

HubSpot
8.2/10Best B2B marketing hub
The B2B CRM that added Breeze AI — email as a module, not the product.
HubSpot is not an AI email tool that happens to have a CRM. It is the B2B operating system that added Breeze: content, agents, and a first draft on the contact and the deal. That is why it sits second on the email ranking, ahead of Mailchimp, and why it is a bad Klaviyo alternative for a DTC store.
- Best for
- B2B teams whose marketing email has to sit on the same CRM as the pipeline.
- Skip if
- You are a Shopify brand shopping an ecommerce ESP — that is still Klaviyo.
Why it ranks
- Email, journeys, and reporting on the CRM sales already opens
- Breeze AI drafts, summarizes, and suggests — on records you already trust
- The honest B2B answer when Klaviyo would be the wrong graph
Watch-outs
- You will implement it like a hub, not like a newsletter tool
- Ecommerce lifecycle and SMS still trail Klaviyo
- Easy to buy Marketing Hub because a demo wrote a nicer nurture

People search 'HubSpot vs Klaviyo' after a vendor said both are 'AI email CRMs,' or after finance asked why a store is paying profile tax while sales already lives in HubSpot. Those are different tickets. If you do not name whether the money is in abandoned checkout or in the opportunity stage, you will buy Marketing Hub as Klaviyo-for-stores, or force a DTC graph into a B2B hub and then wonder why SMS and the catalog feel bolted on.
This is a winner-by-job page, not a feature dump. On Aiacent, Klaviyo scores 8.9 as the ecommerce CRM. HubSpot scores 8.2 as the B2B marketing hub. Forcing a single trophy is how you buy the wrong graph. The email ranking is the four-way with Mailchimp and Brevo. The ecommerce ranking is the store version of Klaviyo. The marketing ranking is Klaviyo in a campaign stack. Read this one if both logos are already in the deck.
Winner by job — not a trophy
| If this is the job | Winner | Skip the other because |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify / DTC lifecycle: flows, SMS, catalog, a list that prints money | Klaviyo | HubSpot will implement like a hub. Ecommerce SMS and the product graph still trail. |
| B2B nurture that has to know the deal stage | HubSpot | Klaviyo is the wrong customer graph. You will fake a pipeline in an ESP. |
| One CRM for marketing email and the sales floor | HubSpot | A second ESP next to HubSpot is how attribution meetings start. |
| Abandoned checkout, browse, and post-purchase that have to be native | Klaviyo | HubSpot can send. It is not the default Shopify lifecycle OS. |
| A monthly newsletter and a few automations | Neither — Mailchimp | You do not need a graph or a hub. The email ranking says the same thing. |
| The bill is the leak and SMS still has to go out | Neither — Brevo | Cheaper than Klaviyo at small lists. Not a HubSpot replacement for pipeline. |
Klaviyo wins when owned channels are the business
Klaviyo is not an AI writer that happens to send. It is the ecommerce CRM: profiles from Shopify (or a peer), flows, suppression, SMS, reviews, a customer graph a retention marketer can actually live in. AI segments and subject lines are useful after abandoned checkout is not an insult. They are not a reason the category exists.
Stay if you make money from people who already bought, or almost bought. Leave if you are B2B SaaS looking for a product-led lifecycle tool — HubSpot may already be the operating system. Leave if the program is still a newsletter. Mailchimp is allowed. Leave if the catalog and tracking are a mess; a better ESP will not invent events.
- Best for: DTC and Shopify-class brands whose P&L is flows, not a blast
- Skip if: the pipeline is the source of truth, or you send a monthly letter and that is the whole program
- Honest watch-out: the bill grows with profiles. Most 'Klaviyo is expensive' stories are unsuppressed lists and overlapping automations, not a rival ESP.
HubSpot wins when the send has to sit on the deal
HubSpot is not an ESP that grew a CRM. It is the B2B operating system that added Marketing Hub email, journeys, and Breeze: drafts and agents on the contact and the opportunity. That is why it sits second on the email ranking, ahead of Mailchimp, and why it is a bad Klaviyo alternative for a store.
Stay if marketing email has to know the stage, the owner, and the last meeting. Stay if sales already opens HubSpot every morning and you refuse a second system of record. Leave if you needed abandoned checkout, a product catalog, and SMS that prints money. Leave if a founder wanted 'the serious CRM' and the program is still a newsletter — that is Mailchimp plus a Free CRM, not Professional onboarding.
- Best for: B2B SaaS and services whose marketing email is a module on the pipeline
- Skip if: you are a Shopify brand shopping an ecommerce ESP
- Honest watch-out: you will implement it like a hub. A prettier Breeze nurture will not fix empty properties.
What the bills actually look like
Klaviyo, checked 19 September 2026 on klaviyo.com/pricing: Free is real — up to 250 active profiles, 500 email sends a month, $5 of mobile messages, $5 of Composer. Paid email scales with active profiles. The first paid band commonly starts around $20 a month; SMS and Composer are separate meters. We will not paste a 20-row profile ladder that Klaviyo's own calculator will outdate. Confirm the band for your list before you treat a 2025 blog as the invoice.
HubSpot, checked the same day against the public Marketing Hub page and HubSpot's product catalog for new customers: Free CRM is a light send. Marketing Hub Starter is a per-seat SKU in the low tens of dollars. Professional is a platform — the catalog lists a start around $890 a month with three Core Seats and a required $3,000 onboarding fee. Enterprise starts around $3,600 a month with five seats and a $7,000 onboarding fee. Contact bands and extra seats sit on top. Suite / Marketing Plus pages show different bundles. Treat Professional as a high-hundreds-to-low-thousands monthly hub, not a $20 ESP. We will not invent a 'typical' contract.
| Klaviyo | HubSpot Marketing Hub | |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 250 profiles / 500 sends — a real taste | Free CRM and a light send — not a lifecycle OS |
| Honest paid start | Usage on profiles; first email band often ~$20/mo | Starter per seat, or Professional as a platform quote |
| What scales the bill | Active profiles, sends, SMS, Composer | Seats, marketing contacts, onboarding, hub add-ons |
| AI on the invoice | Segments, predictions, content — on the graph | Breeze on records — empty properties still invent last quarter |
What we are not pricing
- A deliverability lab or an open-rate bake-off. We did not run 400-send tests or invent a review count.
- A fake Impact or PartnerStack URL. Until a real partner link is set, CTAs go to klaviyo.com and hubspot.com.
- HubSpot Sales Hub, Service Hub, or a Customer Platform suite as if they were Marketing Hub. Those are different meetings.
- Klaviyo Reviews, Customer Hub, or Advanced Data Platform as if they were the email plan.
The forks people actually mean
Versus Mailchimp: Mailchimp wins a newsletter and a few automations. Klaviyo wins when flows and a Shopify-class graph are how you make money. HubSpot wins when the CRM is already HubSpot. Buying HubSpot because Mailchimp felt small is how you pay for a hub you will implement in Q3.
Versus Brevo: Brevo wins when the bill is the leak and SMS still has to go out. It is not Klaviyo at 40,000 profiles. It is not HubSpot for a sales floor. Switching off Klaviyo to save a month and then rebuilding automations is how small stores lose a quarter.
Can you run both? Sometimes — HubSpot for the pipeline, Klaviyo for the store list — if you are actually two businesses (a product plus a services arm) and someone will own the sync. Most mid-market teams that 'keep both' have two sources of truth and a weekly argument about whose revenue number is real.
Most 'HubSpot or Klaviyo' tickets are a store ticket or a pipeline ticket. The word CRM is doing too much work.— Aiacent, 2026
Verdict
Klaviyo if owned ecommerce channels are the business — flows, SMS, a catalog, a list you will actually suppress. HubSpot if marketing email has to sit on the same CRM as the deal. Mailchimp if the program is still a newsletter. Brevo if the bill is the leak and you are not a HubSpot shop. Do not buy either because a demo wrote a nicer nurture. Then read the email ranking for the four-way scores, the ecommerce ranking for the store stack, and the marketing ranking if Klaviyo is one seat in a campaign desk.
