The Aiacent take
Beehiiv is the correct desk when the expensive part is growing and monetizing a list you own: a send, a site, ads, paid subscriptions that do not take 10%, automations someone will actually turn on. It is a bad substitute for Substack when the expensive part is being found next to other writers, and a bad substitute for Mailchimp when the expensive part is a campaign you already know how to send. Forcing a single trophy is how you pay $49 a month for a third newsletter costume and still live in a Substack notes feed.
We score it 8.0 as the newsletter growth platform. Mailchimp still wins the simple existing send (7.8). Brevo still wins the price-conscious email-plus-SMS seat (7.6). Substack still wins the writer network (7.8). ChatGPT still wins the draft. The email ranking is the scored send table. The newsletter-writer stack is the order of operations.
Public prices come from beehiiv.com/pricing and Beehiiv's own pricing FAQ, checked 19 September 2026: Launch is $0 with up to 2,500 subscribers and unlimited email sends; paid plans start at $49 a month. Beehiiv's FAQ states 0% take on paid subscription revenue, minus Stripe's 2.9% + $0.30. Scale vs Max on that same FAQ: both include unlimited sends, automations, the ad network, paid-subscription tools, digital products, and advanced analytics; Max adds branding removal, dynamic content, priority support, and up to 10 publications versus 3 on Scale. Help (updated 22 June 2026) names four plan types — Launch, Scale, Max, Enterprise — and says Scale/Max climb by active-subscriber tier up to 100k, then Enterprise. Confirm the calculator on beehiiv.com/pricing — monthly vs yearly and the subscriber slider move. We will not invent a leftover $99 Max floor, a 10k-subscriber grid we could not read as a static card, or an Impact URL.

The reason Scale exists. A prettier editor will not invent a sponsor or a recommend graph.
Launch as a real taste
2,500 subscribers, unlimited sends. Leave Launch the week monetization or the 2,501st subscriber is the wall — not because a thread said 'pro newsletter OS.'
Verdict
Buy Scale when growth and 0% take are the named leak and Launch already ran out. Do not buy it as a cheaper Substack, a Mailchimp costume, or a writing seat.
