The Aiacent take

Microsoft 365 Copilot is the assistant we would buy when the company already lives in Microsoft 365 and the leak is a draft in the file that is already open: a rewrite in Word, a reply in Outlook, a recap in Teams, a formula in Excel. Copilot Chat is included on eligible plans. The paid license is Work IQ, in-app Copilot, Researcher / Analyst / Facilitator, and the analytics row. Mixing those up is how you buy $30 seats because a keynote said Copilot and still paste from ChatGPT into Word.

We score it 7.8 as the Microsoft 365 in-app layer, next to the thinner Microsoft Copilot mention on ChatGPT alternatives (7.7). ChatGPT still wins the $20 tab (8.3). GitHub Copilot still wins Tab in the IDE. Gemini still wins a Google Workspace shop.

Pros

  • The draft lives in Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams — not a second tab you will forget
  • Copilot Chat is a real included taste on eligible Microsoft 365 plans
  • Work IQ and tenant controls are why legal will sign this instead of ten Plus cards

Cons

  • It sits on a qualifying Microsoft 365 seat. The $21 or $30 is an add-on, not the whole bill
  • As a naked chatbot, ChatGPT and Claude still win the blank page
  • Not GitHub Copilot. Not Gemini for a Google Workspace shop. Not Jasper

Who it's for

  • Microsoft 365 organizations that will actually click Copilot in Outlook and Word
  • IT and legal shops that already killed consumer ChatGPT and still have to draft
  • Ops teams that wanted a recap in Teams without a second notetaker bot

Who should skip it

  • People who only needed the included Copilot Chat tab
  • Google Workspace shops (Gemini) or a $20 personal card (ChatGPT Plus)
  • Engineers who said Copilot and meant GitHub

What matters in the product

In-app Copilot

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams. The product. A rewrite in the file beats a prettier paragraph in another tab.

Copilot Chat vs the paid license

Chat is included on eligible Microsoft 365. The paid seat is Work IQ, in-app Copilot, pre-built agents, analytics. Do not buy the add-on so Chat felt lonely.

Work IQ and tenant controls

Grounding on your files and permissions. Garbage SharePoint is still garbage. The agent will happily summarize folklore.

Verdict

Buy the 365 license when the work is already in those apps and Chat is not enough. Do not buy it as a ChatGPT killer, a GitHub seat, or an included-chat costume.
