The Aiacent take

Windsurf is the editor people still type into a search box after Cascade rewrote a file. In 2026 the download and the pricing page wear the Devin Desktop name — Cognition kept the IDE, put cloud agents on it, and left windsurf.com/pricing as a public plan grid. If you already lived in that keymap, this is the same bones. If you are choosing from zero, you are probably on the Cursor page.

We score it 8.0 as the Cascade-shaped editor, not as a Cursor-killer trophy. Cursor scores 8.6 as the AI-native workspace. GitHub Copilot scores 8.2 as Tab in the IDE you will not leave. Replit Agent scores 8.0 as a hosted app in the browser. Mixing those up is how you pay Pro because a list said 'Windsurf vs Cursor' and still paste from ChatGPT.

Public list prices come from windsurf.com/pricing, checked 19 September 2026: Free $0, Pro $20 a month, Max $200, Teams $80 a month for the team plan plus $40 per full-dev seat, Enterprise a quote. Paid rows include a usage allowance that refreshes daily and weekly; extra usage is billed at API pricing on the vendor page. We will not invent a Cascade-credit lab or an Impact URL.

If your bookmark still says Windsurf, you are already on this product. If you are choosing from zero, you are probably on the Cursor row.

Product look

Figure slot. No vendor screenshot until we have a rights-cleared file.

Windsurf product look — screenshot slot reserved. Add a rights-cleared capture at public/figures/windsurf.png. We do not hotlink vendor UIs.

Pros

  • Tab is unlimited on every public row — including Free — on the pricing page we checked
  • Pro is the same $20 band as Cursor Pro, for a Cascade habit you already have
  • The 2026 pricing page is public: Free / Pro / Max / Teams. We did not have to invent a sticker

Cons

  • The name moved. windsurf.com/pricing now prints Devin plans. Shopping a 2024 Codeium URL is how you buy twice
  • As a first AI-native workspace from zero, Cursor still has the sharper habit
  • Teams is $80 plus $40 a full seat — not a $40 Cursor Teams clone

Who it's for

  • Engineers who already have a Windsurf / Cascade muscle and will keep reviewing diffs
  • Teams that wanted the current name and the current public plan grid, not a scavenger-hunt .dmg
  • People comparing a $20 Cascade seat to Cursor Pro before they switch keymaps

Who should skip it

  • First-time AI-editor buyers (start with Cursor — is Cursor worth it)
  • People who needed Tab in VS Code or JetBrains they will not leave (Copilot — Cursor vs Copilot)
  • Buyers who meant a hosted prototype (Replit vs Cursor) or a long-running cloud teammate as the only seat

What matters in the product

Cascade and Tab

The reason the search exists. Multi-file agent plus unlimited Tab on the public Free row. Review the diff. Windsurf is not a license to skip tests.

Cloud agents on the 2026 page

Pro lists access to cloud agents (Devin Cloud on the pricing grid we checked). That is a usage conversation, not a reason to skip reading the PR. Do not buy Max because a keynote said fleets.

The Devin Desktop rename

Same IDE bones, new marketing name. /tools/devin-desktop is the successor-name review. This page is the search people still use. Do not re-buy a second editor because a landing page said Windsurf died.

Verdict

Stay if Cascade is already the weekday habit. Start on Cursor if you are choosing from zero. Do not buy it as a cheaper Copilot, and do not shop a 2024 Codeium URL.
