Opus Clip

Turn a long video into a pile of shorts — if you already filmed something.

7.7/10Best long-to-short clipsUpdated September 19, 2026

The Aiacent take

Opus Clip does one job: take a long recording and spit out short, captioned verticals. Podcasts, webinars, a YouTube A-roll. That is a real social bottleneck in 2026. It is not 'AI video' in the Pictory or Synthesia sense.

We put it on the social ranking because the buying meeting is a social calendar, not an L&D department. Pictory recuts a post you wrote. Opus recuts a video you filmed. Mixing them up is how you buy a clipper for a blog archive.

Watch every clip before it ships. The model is optimistic about what counts as a hook. Your audience is not.

Pros

  • Finds talk-to-camera moments faster than a human scrub
  • Captions and vertical crops that are good enough for Shorts and Reels
  • Honest about being a clipper, not a studio

Cons

  • Garbage long video becomes garbage shorts, faster
  • Hook selection still needs a human who understands the audience
  • Not a blog-to-video tool and not a scheduler

Who it's for

  • Podcast and webinar teams with hours of usable A-roll
  • YouTube channels that should already be clipping and are not
  • Social managers whose founder will sit on camera but will not edit

Who should skip it

  • Teams with no long video (Pictory if you have posts; Buffer if you have nothing)
  • Agencies selling brand films
  • Enablement teams that needed a presenter on a script (Synthesia)

What matters in the product

Hook detection

Useful first pass. Wrong last pass. Kill the ones that start mid-thought.

Captions and crop

Good enough for social. Always read the proper nouns.

Verdict

The long-to-short clipper. Buy it when the hard part is already on disk. Skip it when the input is a URL, a script, or a blank week.
